A cable schedule earns its keep on site: a tech should be able to find a run, confirm what it carries, and know where it lands without asking anyone. That means each row needs an ID, a human-readable label, the signal type, the device and port on both ends, a length, a zone, and space for notes like connector gender or a format note.

Why hand-typed schedules go stale
A cable schedule typed by hand is accurate exactly once: the moment you finish typing it. The next time a run changes, a device swaps, or a length gets remeasured, the schedule either gets updated by hand too (if someone remembers) or quietly stops matching the show.
That gap is where load-in goes sideways: the schedule says one thing, the rack says another, and the person holding the clipboard is the one who finds out first. Multiply that by a season of recurring shows and the spreadsheet becomes its own maintenance job, separate from the actual design work.
