Working with ports
Port types, directions, hidden ports, per-port labels, and local device edits.
When to use this
Read when customizing devices or cleaning up busy faceplates.
Port basics
- Each port has a type (HDMI, SDI, XLR, RJ45, etc.) and direction (input or output).
- Port names appear on the device body and in wiring exports.
- Hide ports you are not using on this show to simplify the canvas.
Per-port labels
Override default port names with signal labels — e.g. "PGM OUT" instead of "HDMI 1".
Labels should match tape on cables and rack patch fields.
Edit device on canvas
- Local edit adjusts ports on this instance only.
- Save as New Device creates a library template from your changes — use when the same custom faceplate repeats across shows.
Compatibility groups
Some audio connector types are treated as compatible within a group; video types are stricter.
When in doubt during early design, use Generic ports, then tighten types before export.
