Build your first rack elevation

Hands-on: dashboard → new rack → set RU height → place gear on the front face → save and share. Requires WireFlow Pro.

When to use this

Follow when you need a crew-ready rack drawing — flypack, FOH video rack, or install elevation — and Rack Builder is unlocked on your account (Pro or Team).

Pro required

Rack Builder is a Pro feature. Free accounts can preview sample racks but need Pro (or a trial) to save and share rack projects.

Open Rack Builder

  1. /diagrams → Racks tab → New (or Open Rack Builder from the empty state)
  2. You land in Rack Builder with BuilderNavTabs — Diagrams, LED Walls, Racks, Gear List

Set rack size

  1. In the toolbar strip above the canvas, set Rack height in rack units (RU) — e.g. 14U for a road case, 42U for install
  2. Shrinking height may remove devices that no longer fit — confirm if prompted
  3. Workspace switcher: Rack = U-slot elevation; Production desk = top-down flypack layout (optional for this tutorial)

Add devices

  1. Open the device library — panel button top-left of canvas or press [
  2. Drag a device onto a rack slot, or click a library device then click an empty U slot
  3. Search for switchers, routers, audio gear, PDUs, and blank panels
  4. Right-click a placed device to rename, lock, or adjust ports

Front elevation

  1. Use Front / Rear / Both tabs above the rack — start on Front (audience-side faceplate)
  2. Half-width devices can sit on the left or right side of a slot
  3. Leave blank U or note ventilation gaps per your shop standard

Save and share

  1. Header → Save — writes the rack project (first save creates the project ID)
  2. Header → Share — create a view-only link for rack techs (save first if prompted)
  3. Optional: switch to Rear and document power and patch fields before exporting

Tip: Rack Builder uses a single Save button — not the Update Project / Save as New split used in LED Wall Builder.

Best practices

  • Name the project to match the road case label — Video Flypack A — 2026 Tour
  • Match device names to your signal-flow diagram so TD and rack tech reference the same gear
  • Use Presentation / clean display mode before client-facing exports; keep full detail for shop build

Common issues

  • Share says save first — click Save once before opening Share
  • Device will not drop in slot — check RU height; overlapping assignments are blocked
  • Rack Builder locked — upgrade or start Pro trial; see Free vs Pro overview
