Best practices for clean diagrams

When to use this

Review before sending a diagram to a client or printing for the road case.

Layout

• Flow left-to-right or top-to-bottom — cameras → switcher → distribution → displays.
• Keep power and network paths visually separate from SDI/HDMI when possible.
• Align devices to a grid; avoid diagonal spaghetti across the canvas.

Naming

• Match intercom call signs and rack tape labels.
• Include model numbers in notes, not necessarily in the visible device title.
• Version the project name or export filename when sending rev 2 to venue.

Review checklist

• Every device in the gear list appears on the diagram (or is intentionally omitted with a note).
• Backup paths labeled (A/B switch, redundant encoder).
• IP addresses and VLAN notes captured on network gear.
• No orphan ports that crew will ask about on site.

Presentation

Use locked devices and consistent header colors for client-facing exports.

Hide debug notes before share links go to venue staff.
