Floor plans and site map zones

Upload a venue background, draw site map zones, and wire gear inside each zone — with honest MVP limits.

When to use this

Use when the show spans distinct areas — FOH, stage, LED wall, comms closet — and you want one project with per-area wiring diagrams on a shared floor plan.

Two layers to understand

Floor plan background — a PNG/JPG/WebP image behind the wiring canvas (Pro). Good for aligning devices inside one zone.

Site map zones — colored polygons on a site map; each zone holds its own wiring diagram. Device library, Connections, and cable drawing are locked on the site map view until you open a zone.

Enable site map zones

  1. Open a saved diagram in Diagram Builder
  2. Toolbar → Site map zones (or Labels & shapes area on mobile)
  3. The canvas switches to the Site Map view — colored zone outlines on your map

Upload a site map background

  1. In the Site Map Zones panel, use Background to upload a floor plan or stage plot (PNG, JPG, or WebP — max 10 MB)
  2. Scale and rotate the image until zones align with real rooms or areas
  3. Optional: check Same bg in all zones if every zone should share one background image

Draw zones

  1. Site Map Zones panel → Create Zone (adds a rectangle at the current view) or use Select / Draw polygon / Draw rectangle tools
  2. Draw polygon: click corners on the map; click the first point again or Finish polygon after 3+ points
  3. Rename and color zones for crew language — FOH, Stage, LED Wall, Comms (labels appear on the site map only, not device names inside wiring)

Wire inside a zone

  1. Double-click a zone on the site map (double-tap on mobile) — or use Open Wiring on the zone
  2. The header breadcrumb shows Site Map → zone name — you are now on that zone's wiring canvas
  3. Toolbar → Device library and Connections unlock here — add gear and cables as in a normal diagram
  4. Use Site Map in the header breadcrumb to return to the map

Tip: While viewing the site map, toolbar tools show: Locked on the site map. Double-click a zone to open its wiring canvas — then devices, cables, and labels unlock.

Per-zone floor plan (optional)

  1. With site map zones off, Pro users can upload a floor plan from the header image icon on the wiring canvas
  2. When site map is on, use Background in the Site Map Zones panel instead — the header floor-plan control targets the wiring canvas and is hidden on the site map view

MVP limits (current release)

  • Flat zone list only — one level of zones, no nested sub-zones
  • No cross-zone cable connections — wiring stays inside a single zone
  • Site map and zone wiring save together; connections on the site map canvas itself are not stored

Best practices

  • Name zones the way crew calls locations on radio — FOH, Stage Left, Video Village
  • Keep underlay opacity low enough that ports remain readable inside zones
  • One diagram project per show; duplicate with Save as New before a major zone restructure

Common issues

  • Cannot add devices on site map — expected; double-click a zone first
  • Background misaligned — adjust scale/rotation before placing zone corners
  • Underlay blurry — upload higher-resolution source art; avoid upscaling small images
  • Confused by two background controls — site map uses Site Map Zones → Background; single-canvas diagrams use the header image upload
