Creating a rack elevation

New rack project, rack size, naming, and placing your first devices.

When to use this

Follow when starting a new flypack or install rack from scratch.

Step-by-step

  • From the dashboard, open Rack Builder and create a new rack project.
  • Set rack height in rack units (RU) — common road cases are 10U–20U; install racks may be 42U.
  • Name the project to match the road case label (e.g. "Video Flypack A — 2026 Tour").
  • Add devices from the rack device library or diagram-linked gear.
  • Drag devices into rack slots — WireFlow prevents overlapping RU assignments.
  • Save with Update Project.

Best practices

  • Leave ventilation gaps where your shop standard requires — note blank panels as devices or labels.
  • Match rack order to physical case layout (power at bottom, switcher mid, patch top) if that is your convention.
